A illegitate girl child was born Sept. 30, 1745 while Joseph was still married. The child was named Susana Smith and was born to widow Margaret Smith of Bedfordshire, England. Joseph was the Father as it stipulates in his will. Susana was found in the household polls in 1760 as a servant in the household of William James of Dunstable. She had two illegitimate children - Diana in 1780 and Bradley in 1783. She died Sept. 7, 1783 giving birth to her second child at age 38. She was buried in Dunstable. No father recorded for either of her children. The children appear to have been raised in Milton Ernest, Bedfordshire. Who raised them? Unknown.
