Joan was a Friend (Quaker)

Joan was the daughter of Richard Smith and his wife Mary. She was born at Plymouth, Devon on 17 October (Quaker 8th month) 1653.^[1][2]

On 19 November (Quaker 9th month) 1671 Joan married Francus Fox at Plymouth, Devon. The Quaker marriage record describes him as of St Germans, Cornwall, and her as younger daughter of Richard Smith of the borough of Plymouth. The wedding was a Quaker one.^[3][4] They had the following children:

• Francis, born at St Germans, Cornwall on 16 January 1672/3 (Quaker 11th month 1672)^[5][6] and buried at Halbathick Quaker burial ground, Liskeard, Cornwall in 1686 (no day is given in the Quaker record)^[7]
• Rachel, born at St Germans, Cornwall on 28 August (Quaker 6th month) 1674^[8][9]
• John, who died at St Germans, Cornwall on 24 March (Quaker 1st month) 1692 and was buried at Halbathick Quaker burial ground, Liskeard, Cornwall on 26 March^[10]
• Joshua, who died at St Germans, Cornwall on 11 November (Quaker 9th month) 1698 and was buried at Halbathick Quaker burial ground, Liskeard, Cornwall^[11][12]
• Deborah, who married Samuel Croker of St Germans, Cornwall at Rawl Quaker Meeting House in the parish of St Germans on 27 March (Quaker 1st month) 1701^[13][14] and died on 28 January 1705/6 (Quaker 11th month 1705) and was buried at Halbathick Quaker burial ground, Liskeard, Cornwall on 29 January^[15][16]

Joan was buried at Halbathick Quaker burial ground, Liskeard, Cornwall on 8 February 1684/5 (Quaker 12th month 1684).^[17][18]
