• As of 18 Feb 2023, no Martha Smith b. about 1860 in North Carolina has been found that could possibly be other than the Martha Smith found in the 1870 Census District 9, Claiborne, Tennessee.
• Martha's birthdate of 2 Sep 1860 comes from Findagrave, the only source that supports that date. The 1880 Census suggests only an estimated birth year of 1861. If the 1870 Census is correct, only an estimated birth year of 1860 is given. If the 1860 for her is correct, she has an estimated birth year of 1859 which is in confict with the 2 Sept 1860 Gravestone recording.
