Biography

Ada was born in Dec 7, 1910 at her Grandfather Hird's home in Treherne, Manitoba. Ada was the child of Nelson Smith and Jessie Hird. Her birth date is the date of Pearl Harbour Attack on Dec. 7 which she often told me so could never forget her birthday. Of course that attach was in 1942 when Ada was already 32 years old. Although her Obituary states she was born in Portage, she was born in Treherne at her grandfathers as she told me that herself. Ada passed away in 2010. She worked for years in MacGregor at Lamb's Store & recall , like most of her siblings, life wasn't easy. However, all the children seemed to enjoy life & all got along fairly well. She carried on brilliantly cooking meals for large family groups, etc. Recall visiting her often She had two children one stillborn, but the other is my cousin David Booth.

No idea where Nelson Smith, her father, came up with the name Koleda. That is the name she was given and perhaps is is the surname of a friend.

She was active at the MacGregor Senior Citizens Centre and a member of MacGregor United Church.
