Biography

Seth Kellogg Smith, the son of Isaac Smith and Pamela Kellogg, was born about 1788. He had both arms blown off by the premature discharge of a blast at Plymouth Hollow, but lived several years after. He died February 19, 1842 at the age of 54. He married Huldah Parker, the daughter of Job Parker of Kensington. They had 14 children: Jennette, Seth Kellogg, Olive, Harriet, Mary M., Jairus P., Samuel, Orphia, Frederick, Julius, Franklin, Adaline, Franklin, and Walter.

The 1807 marriage date is an estimate based on the 1808 birth of their first child, Jennette.

1820 Census, Southington, Hartford, Connecticut: Isaac Smith and wife on page 50, also their son Seth K. Smith and their nephew, Addin, son of his brother Harvey. Seth K. Smith has 1 male<10, 1 male 10-16, 3 females<10, 1 female 10-16.

(Timlow): "He lived at the foot of the mountain, at the north end of Flanders Street. He had both arms blown off by the premature discharge of a blast at Plymouth Hollow, but lived several years after. He died Feb. 19, 1842, aged 54. Huldah, his widow, died March 10, 1858, aged 82. They both were zealous Methodists."

(1820 Census, Southington, Hartford County, CT.): Smith, Seth K., 1 male to 5, 1 male to 16 [Seth, Jr.], 1 male to 45 [Seth,Sr.], 3 females to 10 [Jeanette, Olive, Harriett], 1 female to 16, 1 female 26-45 [wife Huldah?].
