Biography

Margery (Smith) Pearson was a part of William Penn's Pennsylvania Settlers community.
Margery was a Friend (Quaker)

Margery was born 1 Jul 1658.[1] She is frequently seen with the middle name Ellen which appears nowhere in any primary source records and is fictitious.

She married Thomas Pearson in 1683 in the house of Thomas Janney.[2][3] Shortly after their marriage, the departed Liverpool on the ship Endeavor and arrived Philadelphia/Delaware River in 1683.[4]

Whereas Thomas Peirson of Pownall ffee in the County of Chester Mason: And Margery Smith Daughter of Robert and Ellen Smith of the same township and County aforesaid haveing declared their Intentions of marriage Sundry times at severall publickque meetings of the people of god called Quakers within the county aforesaid: Which was Approved off by those meetings) Now these are to certifie all people whom it may Concern) That for the full determining of the intentions aforesd: The Eighteenth day of the second month in the year of 1683) In an Assembly of the people of god aforesaid at the house of Thomas Janney of pownall ffee and County aforesaid the said Tho Peirson did sollemnly in the feare of god according to the example of the holy men of god

Recorded in the scriptures of truth: Take the said Margery Smith to be his wife in these words (viz: ffriends in the feare of god and in the presents of you all doe I take Margery Smith to be my wife promissing to be unto her a true Loveing and faithfull husband Soe long as we both shall Live) And likewise she the said Margery Smith did then and there take the said Tho Peirson to be her husband in these words viz friends in the feare of the Lord and in the presents of you all doe I take Tho Peirson to be my husband promissing to be unto him a Loveing and faithfull wife soe long as it shall please the lord we shall Live Tho Peirson

And we who were present at their taking Margery Peirson each other hand hereunto set or hands the day and yeare aforesaid

Please note that historical records (both marriage records), etc., refer to her simply as Margery Smith. Her mother was Ellen. She does not appear to have been known as "Margery Ellen".
