DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Ken or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ken:
Welcome! We are so glad you are here! Please make sure each of your Smith profiles has a birth year, birth place and at least one Source. If you dont have exact information, please mark your best guess as Uncertain. Thanks!
There are links on the Smith Name Study page to our Smith One Name Study, Brick Walls, Pending Merges, Unsourced Profiles, Error Lists, Smith Researchers and WikiTree Genealogists, the northeastern US SmithConnections DNA Project and others. There are plenty of opportunities to add and improve Smith profiles. Thank you!
We've made a change in how the tutorials are sent to new members. Instead of weekly messages you can now work at your own pace, so this is the last message.
How is it going so far? Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions?

PS Sometimes links don't work in emails. You can always find a link that works in the public comments on your profile.
You have been here for a while now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know all of us a little better.
You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.
Have questions? We want to help! Click the name above any of your comments, then ask in the comment section of that volunteer's page.
I see that you had a merge in your recent past and if you notice, the Biography & Sources are duplicated. Once a merge is completed, that is part of the process in that all that information is saved and it is up to us to edit out the duplicate information. Let me know if you need help with that.
This week, we'd like to show you How to Join in the Community. There's no shortage of opportunities to get involved through social media, our forum, and projects.
Be sure to check out the One Name Studies Project to see if anyone has started a project for one of the surnames in your family. Don't see one? Follow the instructions for starting your own!
Please let me know if you have questions. :-) If the above link does not work from your email, please go to your profile in the public comments and it will work from there.
You've been here a week now, and we hope you enjoyed your first stop on your guided tour of WikiTree and were able to make good use of the things you learned.
Our next stop will give you some pointers on how to make your profiles stand out: How to Edit a Profile.
Thanks for completing the tags indicating you wish to research/document your family history. You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members.
As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.
Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.
Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.
I was looking at your tag, and I'd like to suggest that you change the tags LOCATION, SURNAMES so that you have at least one tag for each surname or location you are interested to research. For example, one tag for McGregor, another for Kilpatrick etc. By doing that, you can then click on it and any other surname tags you add and you'll be taken to a page where you'll see other genealogists who are also following those surnames and locations.
Furthermore, any activity associated with those surname tags will be reported in your daily activity list.
In the meantime I will accept your request to become a full WikiTree member.
I noticed you uploaded or plan to upload a GEDCOM. Our process here is a little different than what you might find on other sites because of our goal of growing one worldwide tree with a single profile for each individual. Here's two links :
2) Link to the process. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
TIP: If your ancestor was born over two hundred years ago, there's a very good chance she/he already has a profile on wikitree. Before creating a new profile, use the "search function" up on top to see if your ancestor is already here.
