There is only one Jacob Smith in the 1810 Census of Montgomery County Virginia. According to this census Jacob Smith and his wife were born between 1766-1784. On the 15th of July 1796, in Montgomery County Virginia, Jacob Smith married Mary Shockey. The 1810 Census shows 5 boys in the household under Jacob Smith. 3 of those 5 boys, Abraham, Henry and Jacob jr. were named in an autobiography of Jacob Smiths great grandson. Those three lines have been sampled for YDNA testing and are a perfect match. A fourth son is presumed, by way of YDNA matching, to be John Smith husband of Polly Shilling.
Jacob Smith had 2 parcels surveyed and purchased a 3rd. 28 Acres was sold to Henry Shockey, 80 Acres was surveyed and sold to Daniel Sowder and another 50 acres was sold to Peter Guerrant Jr.
Jacob and Polly (Mary) moved to Pike County Kentucky by 1830 and stayed for the 1840 Census. By 1842 they were in the Cabell/Wayne County area of todays West Virginia where they were present for the 1850 Census. In 1860 Jacob Sr. was living with his grandson Jacob Marion Smith.
