Viola was born in a ranching area in Kansas and moved to Clay County, Missouri when she was a child. She sold Tupperware during her adult life, after her son became and adult. She sewed, gardened and canned or froze her own food. She also enjoyed fishing. She was a practicing minister with the Assembly of God church. Her adult life was spent in Excelsior Springs, Kansas City, Liberty and Missouri City, Mo. She and her husband retired to Warsaw, Benton, Mo and returned to Excelsior Springs after his death.
