Biography

According to published genealogies and census records, Emeline Smith was born in Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York. She was said to have died at her son Jonathan Miller's in Nunda, Livingston County, New York, but to date, no gravestone has been found there or in Mt. Morris where her husband was buried.

Per Hope Miller Matthews, Emeline Smith married Jonathan Miller on October 5, 1816.

Emeline Smith Miller died on September 10, 1886. Death Notice from The Nunda News, Saturday, September 18, 1886: "Mrs. Miller, mother of Mr. John [sic, Jonathan] and Dr. E.P. [Eli Peck] Miller, died on Friday night of last week and was buried on Sunday. The deceased resided with her son and had been in feeble health for many years. Dr. E.P. Miller and wife, of New York, arrived Sunday morning to attend the burial and returned Monday evening."

Per deeds (FF:215 and SS:278) in Saratoga County, New York, Emeline (Smith) Miller of Mt. Morris, Livingston Co., NY, was the daughter of John B. and Mary "Polly" Smith.
