Gregory was born in 1712. He was the son of Thomas Smith who's Will was proven the 4th of June 1723. Gregory married to Lucy Cooke and was the father of 3 children, viz: Rev. Thomas Smith of Cople Parish, Westmoreland, VA, Colonel Gregory Smith, and Anna Smith. The latter became the second wife of Robert Armistead. Gregory Smith died in 1737. His widow remarried to a Mr. Booth who appears to have been a subject of jest for the Reverend Thomas.[1]
