Biography

Rosie Irene Smith was born in 13 May 1912 in Haralson County^[1], Georgia to Jacob Breckinridge Smith and Eliza Ellen Crawford Smith.^[2] During her entire life, she went by the name of Irene instead of Rosie.

According to the 1920 Census, Irene Smith was living in the household of her parents and two sisters, Ruby Smith and Lillie Ann Smith. The family was living in Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia. There was also a boarder in the household, Walter M. Smith. At the present time, it is not known if he was a relative of the Smith Family or not.^[3]

On the 1930 Census, Irene can be found living in the household of her parents in Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia. Also in the household was her sister, Lillie Ann Smith, and her niece, Lura Ellen Hendrix (daughter of Ruby Smith Davis) who was being raised by Jacob and Eliza Crawford Smith.. The family was living next door to Irene's sister, Ruby Smith Davis.^[4]

She married Roscoe Weatherby on 21 Jan 1934 in Haralson County, Georgia.^[5] They had one stillborn child on 1 Dec 1934 named Barbra Weatherby.^[6] Barbra was buried in the Bremen City Cemetery, Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia.^[7] Roscoe and Irene Weatherby divorced on 19 Jan 1937 in Haralson County, Georgia.

On 6 Feb 1937, Rosie Irene Smith married Hubert Clifford Munroe in Haralson County, Georgia.^[8]

According to the 1940 Census, Irene was listed as a 27 year old, white female living with her husband, Clifford Munroe, and their daughter, Geraldine Munroe, in Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia. The highest grade in school that she completed was the 9th Grade. She was born in Georgia. ^[9]

On 27 Oct 1969, Irene's husband, Clifford Munroe, died in Eatonton, Putnam County, Georgia.^[10] After his death, Irene moved to Dewberry Trailer Park, Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia to be close to her daughter.

On January 6, 1996, she was living at 405 Gordon Street in Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia. She lived in Dewberry's Trailer Court.^[11]

In her later years, Irene was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. She lived at home as long as she was able, but she eventually moved into the Haralson County Nursing Home in Bremen, Georgia. Irene's two sisters, Ruby Smith Davis and Lillie Ann Smith Bolden, were also residents in that nursing home at the same time.

She died 15 May 2001 in Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia^[1]. She had been in Bremen Hospital for a few days before her death.^[12]

Rosie Irene Smith Munroe was buried in Bremen City Cemetery in Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia in the Smith Family Plot.^[13][14] Her funeral was a graveside service.
