Biography

Lillie Ann Smith Bolden was born on October 8, 1909 to Jacob Breckinridge Smith and Eliza Ellen Crawford Brookshire Smith.

According to the 1910 Census, Lillie was listed as a six month old, white female living in Waco, Haralson County, Georgia with her parents. Also living in the household were siblings and half-siblings: James T. Smith, Jacob W. Smith, Mary Smith, Jesse Smith, Ruby Smith, Jessie Brookshire, Milton Brookshire, and Lydia Brookshire. The census stated that she and her mother were born in Georgia, and her father was born in Alabama.[1]

On the 1920 Census, she was living in Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia with her parents and two siblings. The family had a boarder named Walter M. Smith living with them, but it is unknown if he was a relative or not. Lillie was listed as "attending school," and she could read and write.[2]

According to the The Guntersville Advertiser on 20 July 1926, Lillie Ann Smith, her father, Jacob B. Smith, and half-brother, Milton Smith, stopped in for a visit at the Guntersville Advertiser while visiting relatives for a few days near Albertville, Alabama.[3]

According to the 1930 Census, Lillie was living in Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia with her parents and one sibling, Rosie Irene Smith Munroe. Her niece, Lura Ellen Hendrix Jackson was also living with the family. She was unemployed and could read and write. She and her mother were listed as being born in Georgia, and her father was listed as being born in Alabama.[4]

On the 1940 Census, Lillie was living with her husband, Otis Hugh Bolden, and three children. Her brother-in-law, William Bolden, was also living with the family. She was listed as being a homemaker.[5]

She passed away on January 23, 1993 in Haralson County, Georgia.[6] She was buried at Buchanan City Cemetery, Buchanan, Haralson County, Georgia.[7][8]
