Info posted by Ian R Durling son of Eileen Smith. Benjamin was born in Rochester, Kent, England in June 1912. Ben was apprenticed to a Master Bricklayer and completed his apprenticeship which enabled him to earn a living in the construction industry. Ben married Eileen Phyllis Roylance in March 1935, they resided in Henry Street, Chatham, Kent raising four children William Frederick, Arlene Valerie, Joan Ellen and James Edward. Ben was called up on the outbreak of war and served in the Royal Artillery Parachute Division, he attained the rank of Lance Bombardier and was killed in 1944 he is mentioned in the Army Roll of Honour 1939 - 1945.
