My Grandma, Esther Lydia Amanda Smith told me this of her sister, Bertha's death. There was a Scarlet Fever epidemic and both Grandma and Bertha were infected. One remedy for Scarlet Fever at that time was to shave the patient's head in order to conserve their energy to fight the infection. Bertha had her head shaved, but Grandma hid and did not have her's shaved. She remembered Bertha's hair growing back, lush and full, while Grandma's was always thin and dull after that. While my Grandma survived, Bertha died some time later from complications from the disease.
