Biography

Wilfred Smith was born in Yorkshire, England.

Wilfred was born on August 5, 1868, in Barnsley, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. (Barnsley is a town now in South Yorkshire, located halfway between Leeds and Sheffield. Historically in West Riding). He was the son of John Smith and Henrietta Darley, and the youngest of three children. He was enumerated in the 1871 through 1891 census' residing with his family in Barnsley.

Wilfred married Julia Thurley on March 1, 1898 in Silkstone. (Silkstone is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley). They would have one son before Julia's death in February, 1901. Wilfred and his son were enumerated in the 1901 census residing with Wilfred's parents. He listed his profession as "Blacksmith". It appears Wilfred remarried in 1908. His marriage to Elizabeth Foster was registered in the fourth quarter in Barnsley. Wilfred, Elizabeth, and son, twelve year old John Wilfred were enumerated in the 1911 census in Barnsley.

Wilfred passed away on June 2, 1949, in Barnsley. He was eighty.
