Driva ("Drift") was the daughter of Snær ("Snow") the Old in Finland. One winter the Swedish Drot (king) Vanlandi stayed with the family and married Driva, giving her a son, Visbur. When spring came Vanlandi returned home. He promised to return in three winters but did not do so. After ten winters Driva made plans with the witch Huld to either bind Vanlandi to Finland or kill him. He did not go to Finland so he died when a mara (a type of supernatural being) rode him.[1]
