Gerhard was the son of Gerhard Snakenborg, a squire in Mecklenburg between 1333-1336.
Gerhard was the commander at Axvall. In 1366 king Albrekt gave Gerhard Aranäs in Västergötland for his comming services. Albrekt probably wanted to get his hands on Axvall.
Land was pawned to Gerhard in the province of Östergötland and in 1377 he is accused of stealing the church tithe.
In 1382 Gerhard pawned laned with Alvastra Abbey to be able to afford a journey abroad. His trip went to the holy city of Jerusalem and after that he claims that he became a knight by the grave of Christ.
From 1388 Gerhard calls himself Commander of Hästholmen.[1]
Gerhard's first wife was a daughter of Nils Magnusson (stolpe). She might be the mother of Gerhard's son, the knight Henrik Snakenborg.
His second wife was Kristina Bengtsdotter Bielke and she is the mother of his daughter Sofia who married the district judge Knut Bengtsson.
