Parents were Jacob Snavely and Caty Carper, who were both born in Montgomery, Co, VA. They apparently moved to Ohio sometime after the 1830 census.
Indefinite given name usage. Her death record shows Eva Ann Shell, but her son George's death certificate shows her as 'Anna' Snavely. Son William Rileys' second marriage record shows his parents as Jacob 'Schell' and Eva Ann Snavley. Also, some records show her maternal grandmother was 'Eve' Murray.
Eva was probably born in VA about 1829. Her death record shows age '52 yrs, 8 mos, and 5 d', but may have been in error based on consistent census data: 1850: age 20; 1860: age 30; 1880: age 51.
She married first a David Conover who apparently passed. Eva then married Jacob Schell and had 6 children.
This is the only known photo of her. It was probably taken sometime before Jacob left to serve in the Union Army during the Civil War. The child on her lap is son George Washington Shell--age about 2-3.
When Eva died, she was listed as a widow. She left two minor sons who were temporarily given over to a guardian. The cause of death was a hepatic abscess(gall bladder infection) that had lasted 12 days. Her grave is unmarked in the English Grove Cemetery near Fairfax, MO. She and her husband are likely buried next to the graves for two of her grandsons also buried there.
