Margaret Virginia (Snead) Meeks was born 1753 In Virginia. [Margaret is often cited as having the middle name Virginia. This comes from her death record in Nauvoo with an alternative name of Virginia. Since it was highly uncommon to give children middle names in the 18th century, it is likely that Virginia was a nickname acquired later in life, since Margaret is from Virginia.]

The source for Charleston is Aaron Meeks (1845 to 1927), and several online genealogies claim he was married in Charleston because of Aaron's writings. He wrote a short biography of Athe Meeks in 1920. In that bio, he claimed Athe Meeks lived in Charleston South Carolina. His words have the aura of legitimacy because he is only two generations away from the actual family members that migrated from South Carolina to Indiana. (Athe Meeks Jr. was his grandfather).
But Aaron's account doesn't reflect historical records, which place Athe's first three children being born in either Virginia or North Carolina. When they did move to South Carolina in 1784, they farmsteaded on the frontier, in Greenville County, some 215 miles northwest of Charleston. There are zero historical records that ever place Athe and his family in Charleston.
The estimated marriage date is based on the birthdate of their oldest child (august 1778). And the location is based on where historical records place Athe's father in 1776-77 (The first record of Athe doesn't appear until 1779). No actual marriage record exists for Athe and Margaret.
