Served as an apprentice at his father's Conestoga Roller Flour Mill. Shortly before his father's death, he became the proprietor. In the 1890s, he purchased the local Salem Mills producing fine flour. His first class business skills and courteous manner earned him great respect within the community.
Died of pneumonia and is buried at the Bloomingdale Mennonite Cemetery.
