Biography

Andrew Snoddy farmed at Browndod, Co. Antrim. He may have been born around 1807.^[1]

He married before 1837 to Mary Chichester, probably a daughter of Arthur Chichester.^[2]

He died in 1893.^[3]

He left bequests to eight children: daughters Agnes, Isabella (b.1848), Eliza (b.1840) and Margaret Chichester Snoddy (Maggie, present at his death) and sons John, James. Andrew and Samuel Chichester Snoddy (who may have been the eldest as he was bequeathed the farm). He also left a bequest for a grandson Samuel Knox.

Research Notes

Familysearch have an auto-created profile of Eliza Snoddy b.1840 m. Samuel Knox b.1836 at Inver, 1861, child Samuel Knox b.1862. But there is no associated record. There is an 1890 marriage record for the couple, or at least a couple of the same name, with Eliza's father also being a farmer called Andrew. Did they divorce and remarry? Is this just a coincidence with different people with the same names?

Samuel Chichester Snoddy died 17 Sep 1927, left estate to Margaret Chichester Snoddy. No wills or probate on record for Margaret (under the name Snoddy).

A John Snoddy of Browndod died 27 July 1943 and left his estate to John Snoddy, Farmer - presumably a son. (A different John Snoddy of Browndod died 1898 with bequests to Robert Snoddy and David Snoddy Gray - possibly a brother of Andrew?)

A list of Snoddy marriages. None useful to this research, although interesting to see a Mary Ann Snoddy married an Arthur Chichester in 1790 in the Larne area.

This Ancestry.com tree has his parents as James Snoddy and Agnes Beresford, siblings Agnes and James, and says he married (1) Nancy Workman and (2) Mary Chichester. It lists 10 children but 3 Johns, 2 Agneses and 2 Marys so probably conflating 2 families.
