Biography

Richard Elias Mackey Solomon - son of Joseph Elias and Ann Catherine Michell Solomon - was born 22 September 1831, and baptized 1 July 1834, in Nassau Bahamas.

In 1854, he married Laura Ann Hall, daughter of John William Hall and Ann Moxey Hall at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Nassau. They had children: Maud Eva, Lafayette Elias Michell, Alice Eugenia, Richard Elias, and Ella Ann Solomon.

Richard Solomon was proprietor of the Bahama Hotel at the corner of Bay and Culmer Streets in the 1850s.

During the Civil War, Mr. Solomon was in the business of engaging men to run the blockade. In 1869, he signed an affidavit regarding his involvement with the Oreto in the port of Nassau in 1862. After the Civil War, REM Solomon was a shipping agent.

Richard Elias Mackey Solomon died of consumption 16 November 1891 in Nassau, Bahamas. He was 60 years of age.
