Biography
Thomas Soper was born in 1818 in Devon, England to parents Captain Jonas Soper and Charlotte Keating. His parents immigrated to Newfoundland where his siblings were born.
indentured, St Was parish, Monmonth, 8 Feb 1834 for 7 years : On 8 Feb 1841; "To certify the within Thomas Soper has served me 6 years, 10 months, 22 days of his apprenticeship. Witnessed T Pain? Signed W Perkins, shipbuilder, Dry Sack, Newport, Monmouth : Then Thomas Soper, came to Newfoundland & m.Priscilla Spracklin & I believe lived in Cupids. from Allen Temple Beagan [1]
"In the 1600s and 1700s many Devon fishermen spent the summer fishing in Nfld." [2]
He was a ship-wright living in Cupids, Newfoundland. He married Priscilla Spracklin and together they had the following children:
He passed away 4 May 1883 in St. John's, Newfoundland at the age of 64-65.[5]
