Wellington Sowden was born in July 1833, at Port Hope, Upper Canada, which later became Ontario. (He apparently had a 1st name, Charles, rarely used; he was always called Wellington.)
He married Jane Bird (called Jenny) about 1868 but no specific date or place has been found. They later had several children. The 1871 & 1881 Canada censuses showed this family lived in Hamilton Township, Northumberland County, Ontario.
The 1891 Canada census showed that Wellington Sowden was a lodger near Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. What were the circumstances?
A marriage record of his daughter Kathleen shows that "Kathleen Sawden" born at Port Hope, Ontario, daughter of "Wellington Sawden" and "Catherine Jane" (no surname), married Frederick A. Wilson on 3 July 1901 at Toronto.
The 1901 & 1911 Canada censuses showed that Wellington Sowden was a widower and lived with his adult son, John, and John's family, in Northumberland County, Ontario. (The 1911 record said he was born in July 1832 but likely someone miscalculated.)
The 1911 Canada census showed that Wellington was age 79. He died in 1916 at Camborne, which is indeed in Hamilton Township, Northumberland County, Ontario.
