Description
It was 1918, America was at war, the war to end all wars and everyone was doing their part for the war effort. Even the children were not sheltered from the events of the times. With uncles, fathers and older brothers going overseas, dressed in their military uniforms, the young children were dressed in similar outfits. For the little girls, they dressed as their mothers, aunts or neighbor friends might, as Red Cross nurses.
These two little girls, about three years old, were dressed as nurses, modeling themselves after the grown up versions. On the left was Nannie M. Everhart, whose father was a Captain in the Army Dental Corp. from Maryland and the little girl on the right was Caroline Wern, whose father was also serving at a military camp in North Carolina. It was a fun dress up time for the little girls but a grim moment in history for America.
