Description
The precious metal is "rose gold", along with tiny seed pearls and very ornate decorations are used to complete the description of a special necklace handed down from mother to daughter since at least 1885.
The style is very typical Victorian jewelry where the necklace can also be converted into a brooch. What made the necklace out of the ordinary to inherit was that there were photos of the various daughters wearing the necklace, even one as a young girl.
Eva Savilla Bixler's mother, Mary Jane Musselman Bixler, died when Eva was only two years old, so when her grandmother, Savilla Sherman Musselman, felt she was old enough, Eva proudly wore her mother's necklace. Mary Jane had received it from her mother, Savilla.
After Eva's only daughter, Nan Musselman Everhart, turned 25, the necklace was passed onto her. Nan held onto this family treasure for decades, showing it to her daughters and telling them the story behind it. It was passed onto me, Alice L. Luckhardt, Nan's oldest daughter, in 1994 after Nan's death. I don't have any daughters but I have three nieces, daughters of my younger sister, who will someday inherit this family jewel.
