Description
EDUCATION
The main role of a volunteer will be to teach supplementary lessons for the children in our local schools. The ability to speak English and be given primary education to a Ghanaian child, provides a head start in life, especially in our communities, increasing their chances of continuing education and eventually finding work.
As a volunteer teaching in Ghana, you will receive assistance from the local school teachers regarding the lesson plans and teaching curriculum. There will be a Teaching Guide book to assist you in your daily work with the children. In some circumstance, you shall be paired in class with a local teacher or have a class to yourself. No special qualification is required to volunteer as a teacher but must have knowledge in the subject you want to help the kids on.
Volunteers are asked to assist with lessons Monday to Friday (8:30am -3:00pm)
Volunteers are required to help in any of the following subjects.
- Mathematics
- Sciences
- English Language
- French language
- Creative Arts
- Computing
The school system is absolutely DIFFERENT compared to education in most of Western Europe or North America. VPWA volunteers are expected to adapt easily to this circumstance.
You are encouraged to give your input and try (or share) new teaching techniques. The children take some time to get used to each volunteer’s unique style, but the results you will see are wonderful!
You will be in much demand and whatever you put your mind to will be an inspiration for the children.
