Please Participate

Do you have a family member who participated in World War 2? Please add them to the museum.

If you only have a minute, simply write a note on the Bulletin Board to the right. Include your family member's name, branch of service, unit, or any other information you know about them. A volunteer will transfer your entry to the appropriate place.

You can create a richer "museum exhibit" by adding a profile of your veteran. You don't need to include any family information but WikiTree is designed to enable you to keep it private if you choose to enter personal family history.

You can also create a page about a specific experience, battle, story, military heirloom, or anything else. Click here to create the profile.

If your family member is still living, consider asking them these World War 2 interview questions and then putting their answers on WikiTree.

If you want any help, please contact Chris Whitten.

My Grandfather, S. Sgt Joseph "Joe" E. Underwood served in the 13th Air Force, 42nd Bomb Group, 69th Bomb Squadron in the South Pacific from 1943-1946. He was a tail/top gunner and mechanic for the B-25

My father was Joseph R. Brophy. He was a Staff Seargent in Europe during WWII. When I was a kid, I always tried to get him to talk about his war experience. But he would usually make some kind of joke or change the subject. Then after he passed away in 1996, I found out that he saw lots of combat, including the Battle Of The Bulge. I have to guess that what he experienced was too brutal to recount, especially to his sons, who he wanted to protect. My Mom also confirmed that he would say next to nothing about his war experiences. Whatever he did & saw, he took with him when he died. Rest in peace Pop.

He would love to hear from anyone that served with him. His email address is on his profile.

My father, Arthur David Gibbons, was a navigator. He flew 37 missions in Europe.
He's still alive (as of 3/20/10).
He had a few lucky survival incidents. Once in Arizona he boarded a military bus as the last passenger. The bus had a collision, and everyone else on the bus was killed. In one of his missions the plane was shot down in France. He escaped to Belgium by knowing that tree moss points northward.

I hope to record his narratives.

Interred at Riverside National Cemetery on January 17, 1981. I am his daughter, Clara, wishing to honor his memory. Thank you, feel free to email me.
