Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
John Spearman Jr. was a Virginia colonist.

John Spearman's wife's name was Susannah.[1]

Research Notes

John Spearman was born in 1644. He passed away in 1683. He was bured in St. Anne's Parish, Essex County, Virginia.[citation needed]

There is no primary source showing that his wife's maiden name was Catlett.

Furthermore, a primary source has yet to be found that shows a daughter Susannah for John Catlett I and Elizabeth Underwood. Their son Nicholas married a Susannah, who was "believed to be" a Meriwether and who appears in Essex Co., VA records as "Susannah Catlett." [2]

Father: Not likely to have been the John Spearman who is not known to have been alive past 1608 - see John Spearman (bef.1596-aft.1608). His profile was detached as father of this one as the relationship was not supported by sources, in addition to the probability that he had died 30 years or so before this John (Spearman-18) was born.

Maintenance Categories

As of 17 April 2022, this profile has a lot of text but not a biography with reliable sources. Before a biography can be written, the material in this profile needs to be refined to identify reliable sources (if any) for parents, birth date/location, spouse/marriage date & location, children, and death date/location.
  • Needs Extensive Work: used when the number of maintenance categories exceeds the number of "needs" categories supported by the template (which supports three needs categories). Added 17 April 2022. ~ Noland-165
    • Needs Biography: previously added, but self evident. Once research identifies supportable information, a sourced biography can be added.
    • Needs Research: added 17 April 2022; can be removed when the profile clearly lists genealogical information supported by reliable sources. See Space:US Southern Colonies Project Reliable Sources. ~ Noland-165
    • Needs Sources: added 17 April 2022 - results from "Needs Research" should resolve this. ~ Noland-165
    • Needs Style Review: added 17 April 2022. I reorganized the text, but much more work is needed. See Space: US Southern Colonies Project Editing Guidance & Space: US Southern Colonies Project Profile Example. ~ Noland-165
    • Needs Location Research: added 17 April 2022. Added because birth place in datafield is not mentioned in text, but the text has a lot of jumbled location notes. Getting the location information in better order should help a bit with both resarch and style. ~ Noland-165
    • Needs Ref Tags: added 17 April 2022. Added because a lot of information was moved from below ""S" to above it. Ref tags below trigger a DBE suggestion. Information retained in the profile should have ref tags to identify where the information came from. (Perhaps a review of Changes will help, if ref tags were removed to clear DBE suggestions.) ~ Noland-165
