Edmund Spencer (or Spenser) was the oldest son of Sylvanus and Ellen Spencer.[1][2][3]
There is no record of his birth date. However based on his parents apparent marriage around 1601, Edmund could have been born between about 1602 and 1610. However, there is also evidence his brother William was born about 1634, suggesting a later birthdate for Edmund as well. A birthdate of 1620 is provisionally adopted here, for the range 1610-1630.
Edmund was awarded estate in Kilcolman by royal letters of patent on 18 Feb 1638. This was to remedy defective title, apparently as originally sought by his father Sylvanus as heir to his father Edmund's estate.[1][2][3]
Edmund would have died after 1638, when he was awarded the Kilcolman estate. Welply (1922) suggests he died on August 1640, breaking his neck in a fall from his horse, and was buried at St. James Church, Dublin.[5]

↑ According to the pedigree chart prepared by W. Betham in 1841, Edmund married and had children. However, according to G. Craik (1845), "He undoubtedly died unmmarried, or at least without leaving any descendants, although the pedigree drawn up by Sir W. Betham, probably by an error in the way in which it is printed in the Gentleman's Magazine, assigns to him the children of his brother William." Furthermore his father's property was clearly passed to his brother William's children, indicating Edmund did not have an heir.
