James Spencer died 19 Dec 1781 at age 40, according to his headstone in the small cemetery on the grounds of Lanespark House, near Killenaule, Tipperary, Ireland. His will was also probated on 1781.[1]
This is the first evidence of a Spencer in this location. His parents are not known. A speculative link is to John Spencer of County Cork, Ireland, based on an unproven link between the Lane family estate owners here and Edmund Spencer.
His siblings are also not certain. Possible siblings based on marriage licenses from the area and timeframe are: John (m. Mary Hippell in 1766), Catherine (m. William Butler in 1762) and Grizel (m. William Smithwick in 1766).[2]
His children are not certain. It is possible that he married Catherine. One child could be James Spencer, whose headstone in the same cemetery indicates he died 1831. Other children may have included John (m. Margaret Meagher in 1790), George, William, Nicholas (m. Mary Walsh in 1812), Catherine (m. William Oldfield in 1834) and Thomas (~1768-1842, m. Martha Franklin in 1806).[2]
