Biography

James, born at Haddam, Conn., 24 Feb 1691, died at East Haddam, 15 Dec 1758; will 13 Jn 1754, proved 1 Jan 1759; married first, 14 Jan 1720/1, Hannah Crippen, born 25 May 1703, died after 1742, daughter of Thomas Crippen, who conveyed land to her on 5 Aug 1734 [East Haddam Deeds, 2:508]; married second, Lydia Mott, born at Lyme, Conn., 22 Mar 1706, died at East Haddam, 2 Jan 1762, daughter of Samuel and Mary (Brockway) Mott. The second marriage is proved by Lyme Deeds [16:399], a conveyance given by Lydia Spencer of East Haddam in 1759; the will of Samuel Mott, 20 Aug 1751, proved 16 Apr 1753, calls her Lydia Ackley, so she was a widow.
