Daniel Hill Spencer was born on June 23, 1762 in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont. He is the son of Timothy Spencer and Lois Hill. Daniel passed away in about 1851, at Dryden, Lapeer County, Michigan, USA.

Daniel Hill Spencer marries Maria Spencer on October 28, 1784 in Springfield, Windsor Co., Vermont. Maria Spencer is the daughter of Simeon Spencer and Esther Gould. Maria was born in about 1765 in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont. Maria dies on August 26, 1845 and is buried in Lapeer County, Michigan.

Daniel enlisted as a soldier in May or June of 1778 at Charlestown, New Hampshire under Captain Martin's Company, Col. Peabody's Regiment, New Hampshire State Troops. Daniel was in service at Newport Rhode Island, where the British were stationed and fought against the British under General Sullivan.

In June or July of 1779, Daniel became a member of Capt. Thomas Sawyer's Co, Col. Barrett's Regt. and marched to Rutland. Daniel was enlisted as a Scout. After he was discharged he returned to Springfield in that same year. In October of 1780, he re-enlisted in Benjamin Cox's Co., Col. Barrett's Regt. where he did service at Ft. Barnard. Again after being discharged he returned back to Springfield.

Daniel moves the family to Hinesburgh, Chittenden, Vermont in about 1788, where they remained for about nine years. Daniel's name appears in Springfield on a list of Freemen in 1794.

Daniel, Maria and their young family moved to Lower Canada around 1797 (Chatham, Quebec), where they stayed for about seventeen years. Upon arriving in Canada, Daniel makes petitions for land. He is granted 200 acres as a Revolutionary Soldier. He pays for homes to be built for himself, his son Cyrus, his son Daniel Jr. and Daniel Jr.'s son Moses.

Daniel makes a final move to Dryden, Lapeer Co, Michigan to live with his daughter Alma and her husband Luke Perkins around May 10, 1841. Daniel is listed on the 1850 Census with Alma (since remarried to William Fletcher) as 98 years old.

In June of 2012, Daniel Hill Spencer was honored with a new Cemetery Headstone. This ceremony was organized by the Nipissing Chapter of the Michigan Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) and the Michigan Society Sons of the American Revolution (MISSAR).
