William Spencer
William was probably born by 1652 if he was the son of Michael, which is doubtful; otherwise may have been several years younger. William died at East Haddam, Conn., early in 1712/13; inventory taken 6 Feb 1712/13. He married Sarah Ackley, who was living at Colchester, Conn., in 1721, daughter of Nicholas.
William first appears in Saybrook, Conn., 13 Jan 1685/6, when he bought a right there from James Harris. William Spencer, formerly of Saybrook, late of Haddam, dec'd, sold a £24 right in Saybrook "which did belong to my Honored father" [Saybrook Deeds, 1:169; 4:486].
William bought land in Haddam, 4 Feb 1703/4, from John Chapman, part of the consideration being that he should teach the three sons of Chapman to "write and sipher as far as is needful and usuall." He settled there and became Town Clerk.
Before 1652, at Lynn, Essex, MA, USA[1]
