Notes
Note N678Joshua came to Bates Hollow or Rensselaerville with his parents Nathan Spencer and step mother Ruth Anthony. His mother (Elizabeth Gorton), Nathan Spencer's first wife died shortly after Joshua was born. The Spencer's were first found in the Coeymans Quaker meeting records and then later in the Rensselaerville Quaker meeting records. Joshua Spencer is linked directly with the Spencer's who settled in
Rhode Island in the early 1600's. The Spencer cemetery is in terrible shape and is located deep in the woods at the end of Ray Bates Rd., in Bates Hollow NY.
