Ellis was born in 1833, the son of Seldin Spencer and Phebe Seeley.

  3. Various historic City Directories;
  4. NY State, Ulster County and Columbia County records available via their internet sites and at their accessible storage locations;
  5. Vital birth, marriage and death records obtained from the NY State Dept Health;
  6. Vital record indexes available at the NY State Archives Department in Albany NY;
  7. Field visits to and records obtained from various cemeteries;
  8. Original hand-typed Thomas and Spencer Family data records prepared by James D, Spencer [1883-1954] and given to the Brown family of eastern NYS in the early 1900's.
