Biography

Mary was a Friend (Quaker)

Mary was born in Gravesend, New York on 20d 8m 1671 [20 Oct 1671].[1][2][3] She was the daughter of Samuel Spicer and Esther Tilton Spicer.[2][3]

Children of Jeremiah and Mary Bates:
  • Mary.
  • Sarah.
  • Martha.
  • Abigall.

"Mary, wife of Jeremiah Bates" was named in her father's will dated 13 September 1692.[4]

From the abstract of her mother's will, it seems possible that Mary died before her mother wrote her will on 27 July 1702. The will names her brothers, sisters Martha and Abigall, and "grand-children Mary, Sarah, Martha, and Abigall, children of daughter Mary, wife of Jeremiah Bate" and "Samuel, son of daughter Sarah, wife of Daniel Cooper."[5] In some cases, naming the grand-children and their father indicates the mother had died.

Research Notes

Verify Mary's DOD. Possibly check original will of mother, not just the abstract.

Spicer-489 and Spicer-303 appear to represent the same person because: A duplicate, as are the fathers.
