"Henrich Spielmann of Oberschelden... was the second son of Johann and Agnes Spielmann of Seelbach, and was the father of John Spilman, the 1714 colonist, and grandfather of the Crim brothers who came over in 1740. He was buried at Oberschelden Mar. 3, 1706, aged about 60 years.' On July 15, 1673 Henrich Spielmann, 'son of Johann Spielmann of Seelbach,' married at Gosenbach Agnes, daughter of Henrich Risserodt, decd., of Oberschelden, and by her had six children...."[1] His burial record in 1706 gives his age as "about 60," but an earlier record, in 1703, gives his age as 60, meaning he was born around 1643.[2]
"Agnes (Risserodt) Spielmann died at Oberschelden Sept. 11 1690, and Henrich Spielmann married (2) Nov. 26, 1690 Anna Margarethe, daughter of Johann Grimm, decd., of Oberschelden and sister of his son-in-law, Christian Grimm."[3]
Children of Henrich Spielmann (all by first wife except the final one)[4]:
Elisabeth, bapt. Aug. 29, 1674; m. 1698 Christian Grimm; her sons Johannes and Jacob (mentioned below) emigrated to Virginia in 1740 and lived with other immigrants from Nassau-Siegen.
Christina, b. and d. Oct. 1678.
Johannes, bapt. Nov. 9, 1679. "He was godfather of Johannes Grimm, his nephew, in 1701, and in 1708 was living as a bachelor at Oberschelden with his stepmother."[5] Five years later he became part of the little colony that emigrated to Germanna, Virginia, and married Maria Elisabeth Fischbach (Mary Elizabeth Fishback).
Margreth, bapt. Dec. 3, 1682; d.Mar. 20, 1685.
Jacob, bapt. Sept. 28, 1684. In 1705 (at the age of 21) he was godfather of his nephew Jacob Grimm (who went to Virginia with his brother in 1740). Did Jacob also emigrate?
"Probably a 6th child, b. ca. 1689, but not shown in the Oberfischbach church books. However, in 1703 Henrich Spielmann, '60 years old,' was shown at Oberschelden with 2 children in his family, one aged 20 (i.e., Jacob), and one aged 14 (i.e., a child b. ca. 1689)."[6] This record would put Henrich Spielmann's birth year at 1643, not 1646 as is commonly supposed.
Maria Elisabeth, b. Mar. 25, 1695; d. Feb. 4, 1696.
