Biography

The 1850 census for Troy, Perry, Indiana shows a 10 year old Alice Spillman born in Indiana in the household of Harvey Spillman, 42, born in Kentucky, and Mary Spillman, 36, born in New York. ^[1]

Biographical information from Findagrave: Alice Spilman (1839-1918) married 15 Oct 1857 at Perry County, Indiana to John Laverty (1822-1890), a Methodist-Episcopal Minister. They had four children: Harvey Laverty, John Frank Laverty., Adeline Laverty and Susan Eloise Laverty Nutting. --- Minnesota State Census, Faribault, Rice County, 1895, lists: LAVERTY, Alice age 54 born Indiana LAVERTY, Susie 19 [Note: Alice (SPILMAN) LAVERTY was a daughter of Harvey SPILMAN. Her daughter, Susie LAVERTY, married John NUTTING. "Cousin" Susie NUTTING lived next door to the Leslie DECOURSEY family, 1010 - 26th Avenue NE, Minneapolis, Minnesota. W.L.D.] She passed away in 1918.^[2]

Note: Alice's son "Harvey" above is Samuel Harvey Laverty, who went by "Harvey".^[3]

Research by Alice and John's great-grandson Laverty-340 listed their 4 children as Harry, John, Susan and Carrie (instead of Adeline) and lists Alice's mother as Mary Mason^[4]

In 1910 Alice was living in the household of her daughter and son-in-law Susie Laverty Nutting and Albert Nutting.^[5]
