There is no documentary evidence that Gov. William Stone was ever married to Elizabeth Sprigg. The sister of William's wife, Virlinda, Katherine (Graves) Roper was married to the immigrant, Thomas Sprigg, however. Since William did not come to Virginia until 1628 he would have had to have been married to Elizabeth in England. However, the Spriggs were from Northamptonshire and the Stones were from clear across the country in Lancashire.

William Stone, Governor of Maryland, married Verlinda Graves, daughter of Thomas and Katherine Crosher Graves. Verlinda's sister, Ann, married William Cotton. Verlinda's sister, Katherine, married William Roper and Thomas Sprigg. (maybe that's where the confusion comes from)
