Biography

Private Allen Spurlock Jr served with the United States Army during the Mexican-American War
Service Started: November 13, 1847
Unit(s): Battalion Mississippi Rifles (Anderson's)
Service Ended: June 28, 1848

Allen was born about 1809. He was the son of Allen Spurlock and Frances Traylor. He passed away in1849.

Some researchers have both him and his father listed as William Allen Spurlock. No evidence has been seen of this and is highly unlikely since he has a brother named William H. Spurlock who lived in Lawrence County, MS.

1839 - Allen Spurlock, Jr. is appointed guardian of James, Milton, Walter, Sarah, and Elizabeth Spurlock, infant children of John Spurlock, decd.

Most of these are probably the children of his brother John who died about 1835. Allen Spurlock is listed as the guardian for James, Milton, and Sarah Spurlock in 1844. He did not marry until 1834.

1842 - Guardian accounts for James, Milton, Walter, Sarah, and Elizabeth by Allen, Jr. are approved.

1844 - Notice in paper that Allen, Jr. will present final accounts of James, Milton, and Sarah Spurlock.

Jul 1844 - Allen, Jr. is released for James, Milton and Sarah. Elizabeth and Walter accounts approved.

Allen married first to Calesta Ann Robinson on 21 August 1834 in Amite County, MS. No known children. [2]

He married second to Mary "Polly" Hughey Lard on 9 April 1839 in Amite County, MS. One possible son: Thomas Jefferson Spurlock. Some researchers believe he also had a daughter Mary Jane Spurlock, born 1845, who is listed on school records. [3]

There is also a Lethean Spurlock, born in 1842 who might be a daughter of Allen, Jr. and Mary Hughey.
