Obituary

Judith “Judy” Staaf-Martin Taylor, 71, passed away on July 5, 2013, at her home in Greeley, surrounded by her family, following a brief bout with cancer. She was born Dec. 22, 1941, to Wilbur E. Staaf and Julia (White) Staaf in Youngstown, Ohio.

Judy married Daniel “Dan” R. Taylor of New Waterford, Ohio, on July 19, 1963. Dan’s employment brought them to Colorado in 1966, where they began their family. They returned to Ohio in 1973 where she raised her children, cared for her parents and furthered her career in nursing. She and Dan then moved back to Greeley in 2006 to enjoy the mountains, which was one of her favorite places.

Judy was a graduate of the Youngstown Ohio Hospital Association School of Nursing. She retired from nursing in July 2011 after 48 years. Her most recent employment was with the Rehabilitation & Visiting Nurses Association in Greeley. She had many experiences in the nursing field and was the executive director/clinic administrator for the Community Action Agency of Columbiana County, Ohio’s two federally qualified medical centers and the county’s federally funded dental center for 19 years. She was instrumental in the founding of these centers and received statewide recognition from the Ohio Department of Health/Bureau of Oral Health Services in 1996, for improving children’s oral health. In 2002, she received the Distinguished Rural Health Administrator of the Year award from the Ohio Department of Health.

She was active on many of Ohio’s health task forces, a member and past officer of the Ohio Primary Care Association, a member of the “Under the Red Hat” Salem Chapter, and an active member of the Assistance League of Greeley.

Judy was preceded in death by her mother and father; her stepfather, James F. Martin; her brother, Ronald “Ron” D. Martin; and a nephew, Ronald D. Martin Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Dan; a son, Kerig M. Taylor of Cleveland, Ohio; a daughter, Megan E. Taylor of Boardman, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Joan (Clay) Calvert of Leawood, Kan., Mrs. Janet Rosenfeld of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Wilbur E. “Butch” Staaf of Rockford, Ill., and James “Jimmy” Martin; two sisters-in-Iaw, Mrs. Joyce (Ronald) Martin of Green Bay, Wis., and Mrs. Dorothy Staaf of Youngstown, Ohio; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins."[2][3]
