Biography

James was born to Bartholomew Stackpole/Stacpoole and his wife _____ in Limerick, [1] perhaps about 1595.[2]

James held the office of Bailiff of Limerick in 1626.[1] He was reported as going in that year publicly to mass, a bold act since the established religion was the protestant Church of Ireland.[3]

James Stacpoole married Christian Comyn, daughter of Nicholas Comyn.[3]

James apparently died before 1653, when his son Bartholomew and his family, along with Bartholomew's brothers Thomas and John, were dispossessed and transplanted to County Clare by Cromwell's forces, an event with extensive documentation that does not mention James.[4]

James and Christian Stacpoole had, in Limerick, children including:[3]

  • Thomas, b. perhaps 1617, apparently not (yet?) married in 1653
  • Bartholomew b. 1619
  • John, b. 1625, apparently not (yet?) married in 1653
