Biography

William Stacy was born in 1801. He passed away in 1870.

He had two marriages and two known mistresses. He had 33 identified children.

Big Billy married Rebecca Proffitt in 1819.

Sarah Mallett gave birth to her daughter Kezziah in 1820. The father was William “Big Billy” Stacey who was married to Rebecca Proffitt at the time. Sarah Mallett never married to William "Big Billy " Stacy, although he fathered several of her children. She was actually married to Henry Davis, with whom she also had children. All of Sarah's children went by the surname of Davis. According to researcher Pat Hatfield, Henry Davis Sr married Sarah and soon left her for another woman. Sarah became romantically involved with other men out of marriage in addition to Big Billy. Around 1824 John Davis brought a charge of bastardy against her in order to have one of her children bound out.

Big Billy was also the father of the children of Sarah Elizabeth Proffitt, his wife Rebecca’s sister. All of his children with Sarah used the Proffitt surname. According to family legend, Sarah Proffitt fell in love with William Stacy, but her sister Rebecca married him and Sarah vowed to have his children.

Big Billy later married Rebecca Blankenship.
