The Visitation of Devon, as edited by J.L Vivian, in the genealogy of 'Cary of Cary', names Agnes, daughter of the Lord Stafford as the first wife of Sir John Carye, the son of Sir William Carye and his wife, Margaret Bozume, and that Agnes died without issue.[1]
However Visitations in general aren't that reliable for this earlier period and nothing has been found so far that confirms anything about Agnes or her marriage.
Even if we are to accept that she was the daughter of a Lord Stafford, then it is difficult to pinpoint who exactly this is. Agnes de Stafford. born 1333, was originally entered as a daughter of Ralph Stafford, 1st Earl of Stafford and his second wife, Margaret de Audley, but they weren't married until about 1336.
Nor are there any sources found so far that confirm Agnes as the daughter of Ralph and his first wife, Katherine Hastang.
For the moment, Agnes has been retained as the uncertain daughter of Ralph Stafford, pending further investigation.
