Biography

Ursula Stafford (living 11 Jul 1603), dau. of Sir William Stafford of Chebsey, Staffs. and Dorothy, dau. of Henry, 10th Baron Stafford of Penshurst, Kent.[1]

Note that Westminster Abbey and older sources do not believe that Lady Dorothy Stafford had any other daughters who survived until maturity besides Elizabeth. Hasler (1981) and Richardson (2011) depart from that theory and assert that Ursula did.

Marriage

m. Richard Drake, esq. of Escher, Surrey (d. 11 Jul 1603; bur. Escher church). Issue:[2][3]

  • Francis (only son).[1]

Property

  • from c. 1604: lease for manor of Walton-on-Thames.[4]

  1. 1.0 1.1 Hasler, 1981
  2. Hasler (1981), states that Drake had one son
  3. see also: Ancestral File 9N2S-WT: Husband: Richard Drake, Wife: Ursula Stafford, Marriage: about 1553: Surrey; Ancestry.com
  4. Drake left the lease for Walton-on-Thames to his widow, (Hasler, 1981).
  5. Richardson's (2011), entry does not state where Richard Drake, esq. was from, but he does assert that he was married to Ursula, dau. of Sir Wm. Stafford and Dorothy Stafford.[1]
    Wikipedia notes that:
    1. Adams (n.d.), thought two of Dorothy Stafford's dau. died young;
    2. and that Richardson (n.d.) departs from this theory, (see footnote #13 in Wikipedia: Dorothy Stafford in v. 15:44, 25 Oct 2018).[2]
Westminster Abbey also states that Elizabeth was Dorothy's only dau. who lived until maturity.
Hasler (1981), seems to be in agreement w/ Richardson, but goes on to state that Drake was from Escher Place in Surrey.[3]

Ursula can not be born 1553 and get married in 1553? Or have I missed something?

Maybe she became married in 1573? Seems a possibility, as her son, Francis was born in abt. 1576.

According to Westminster Abbey, Dorothy Stafford's only dau. "to reach maturity," was Elizabeth, wife of William Drury.[1]
