Biography
Parents were Jacob Staley (1784- 1865) and Ellender Childers Staley (1798- 1860). Married Martha Amelia Cleveland 15 August 1843. 1850 census found in Wilkes with children Robert and Amelia. 1860 census found in Upper Division of Wilkes County, serving as High Sheriff. Additional children Cornelia, John A. and Perlina. 1870 census found farming in Rock Creek area of Wilkes, Martha and children Robert, John and Perkins living there as well as Elizabeth Cleveland, apparently widowed mother of Martha. 1880 census found in Wilkesboro as hotel keeper. Martha, Cornelia, John and Perlina with Col. Staley.
