Biography

Sir Edward Stanley, Knight, 1st Baronet of Bickerstaffe (in Ormskirk), High Sheriff of Cheshire and Lancashire.

Edward was born 14 Dec 1576, Bickerstaff, Ormskirk, Lancashire, England, and is the son of Henry Stanley and Mary Stanley.

In a record relating to his father's 1598 funeral he is listed as having been given 5 yards of black.[1]

He married first, Catherine Mainwaring, daughter of Sir Randall Mainwaring of Over Peover. Catherine died in 1613.

He married second, Isabel Warburton. On 29 May, 1615, the Archdeaconry of Chester issued to Edward Stanley of Bickerstaffe, Parish of Ormskirk, Lancashire, esq, and Isabel, daughter of Peter Warburton of Arley, Parish of Great Budworth, Cheshire, a licence to marry without proclamation of banns at Mobberley, Lymm or Great Budworth, Cheshire.[2]

Research Notes

Douglas Richardson misidentifies Edward as son of his maternal grandfather, Peter Stanley and his second wife.[4]
