Noted : There are no known birth records for George Stanley, The earliest spelling in Court Records: Stanly, his own signature was George Stanlay. His will only names wife Bethia, daughter Bethia, sons John and George.

George Standley Lot. This was probably the tract of land granted to Ens. William Dixie at a meeting of the selectmen of Salem Dec. 17, 1649; which was apparently not laid out to him until 1658. William Dicksey of Beverly, for forty pounds, conveyed it to George Stanly of Beverly Jan. 8, 1671;a and Mr. Stanly owned it in 1700. Essex Registry of Deeds, book 5, leaf 95. Historically Speaking Stories from the Historical Archives of the First Parish Church in Beverly, Massachusetts: [Source below] “The testimony of George Stanley aged about 44 years who sayeth that some years since which was about the time of Salem new meetinghouse was built, I being in company with Capt. Lothrop, Capt. More, and Capt. Joseph Gardner, by Capt. Gardner’s house. I heard Capt. Gardner say to Capt. Lothrop ‘I think’, said hee, ‘Wee must have your Bell, for our meeting house is bigger than yours in your Bell is bigger than ours. I think we may do well to exchange bells.’ Capt. Lothrop replyed he knew no need of that. ‘Our Bell,’ said hee, ‘is very well where it is. The Bell was given to me for the place where now it is.’ Capt. Moore answered him that ‘Although the Bell were given to you yet,’ said he, ‘I don’t know that I might have kept the bell as well as you, for I brought it home and I never gave bill of lading for it neither was I ever paid for the freight of it.’ Capt. Lothrop answered Capt. More that he might have kept such and such things, naming several things as well as the bell, ‘For I had no more bill of lading to show for them,’ said he, ‘than for the Bell.’ ‘Come come,’ said Capt. Moore, ‘Let us drink up our wine and say no more about it. I suppose we shall never trouble you for none of them.’”

Att a meeting of the selectmen the 2" of Iune 1683 then Rec" of george stanly seven pounds fifteen shillings in silver which together with three pound formerly Recd is In consideration of and full sattisfaction for two parcells of Land sold and Laid out to him by the selectmen the last year and is hereby Confirmed to him, Conteining together about six acors and a halfe more or Less bounded the one parcell with the land of thomas patch and the said stanly his own land which hee bought of Capt. dixcy the other parcell with a Birch tree which is the southerly bounds of Thomas patch his Land which was formerly Lovets and from thence easterly to a maple at the Corner of the swamp and thence northerly to a small Red oake standing by the line of the Land said stanly bought of Capt dixcy [but] it is hereby provided and Conditioned that there shall be a highway allowed forever by said stanly and his successors from bald hill to Thomas patch his now dwelling house through the first parcell of Land here mentioned. page 413 Municipal Documents year ending 1896 By Beverly (Mass.)

At the same meeting of ye Selectmen Reckoned with Iohn Giles who was Constable for ye year 83 for ye overplus of Mr. hales rate baring date the 23 of Iune 83 and hee ye said Giles Remains in the towns Debt the just summe of 3 shillings. At ye same meeting of ye Selectmen Reckned with Richard Ober who was Constable for ye year 83 for ye overplus of Mr. hales Rate Baring Date the 23 of Iune 83 and for a County Rate Baring date )e 30: 11: 83 and hee ye said Ober did then pay thirty five shillings in mony the which thirty five shillings was in full satisfaction for ye above sd Rates. At ye same meeting of ye selectmen Reckned with Iohn Giles who was Constable for ye year 83 for ye County Rate Baring date }-• 30 Feb. 83 and then Received of ye sd giles Eight shillings in mony which Eight shillings did Balance for ye abovesd Rate. It is to be understood that Mr. hales Rate is fully satisfied any former Record [of said Rate] notwithstanding. At ye same meeting of ye selectmen Ephraim Herrick & George Standley who war Constables for ye year 81 did produse a receipt from Mr. Hale as followeth: These ar to signifie yt I have Received by order of Ephraim Herrick & George Standly out of ye Kate made 1681 jc sume of sixty five pounds this 22 of Iune 1683.
